Nnamdi Kanu takes over defence in court as lawyers withdraw

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has taken charge of his own defence in court, after his lawyers withdrew from the trial, sparking interest in the ongoing case.

Lead counsel to the IPOB, Kanu Agabi, applied to withdraw from representing him stating that the defendant had taken the case back from them.

Nnamdi Kanu told the court that all Senior Advocates of Nigeria representing him had withdrawn from the suit, leaving him to defend himself.

Kanu told the court that he would be representing himself for now, though that might change later. When the judge asked if he should be assigned a lawyer, he declined the offer.

Defending himself orally, Kanu argued that the court lacks the jurisdiction to try him.
