The Palace of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has dismissed widespread reports suggesting a strained relationship between the monarch and Seyi Makinde.

In a press statement issued on Saturday by the monarch’s Media Aide, Adeola Oloko, the palace said the attention of the Olubadan had been drawn to “trending news” alleging a rift between the revered traditional ruler and the Oyo State Governor.

The statement categorically denied the reports, stressing that there is no discord between the two leaders, who it said continue to maintain a cordial and respectful relationship in the interest of Ibadanland.

“We wish to make it abundantly clear that there is no rift between Kabiyesi and Olori Omo Oba of Ibadanland,” the statement read, reaffirming the unity between the palace and the state government.

The palace also addressed speculations surrounding the monarch’s alleged absence from Ibadan ahead of a planned coronation ceremony scheduled for Friday, April 3. It clarified that Oba Ladoja did not travel out of the city to avoid the event, as widely speculated.

According to the statement, the Olubadan remains in Ibadan, hale and hearty, and continues to carry out his royal duties without any hindrance.

In further clarification, the palace disclosed that the postponement of the coronation ceremony was not connected to any disagreement or internal crisis, but rather due to a formal request by the affected chiefs.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the three concerned High Chiefs due to be coronated have formally informed the Olubadan that they would be unavailable, and have, therefore, asked for postponement,” the statement explained.

It added that the development was properly communicated to the Oyo State Government through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, underscoring that due process was followed.

The palace reiterated its commitment to transparency and harmony, urging the public to disregard unfounded reports capable of creating unnecessary tension within Ibadanland.
