Adeboye Ademoroti, the chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Osun State has been shot dead in Ilesa, prompting the police to launch an investigation into the killing.

While details surrounding the attack were still sketchy at the time of this report, security sources told Punch anonymously that Ademoroti and another individual were ambushed and shot at the Olomilagbala area of Ilesa late Tuesday.

Also, the spokesperson for the Osun Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident on Wednesday, disclosing that the police was alerted by a medical practitioner who said two gunshot victims were brought to his hospital.

Ademoroti was taken into the hospital dead on arrival, according to the doctor’s statement to the police.

“We received the report late yesterday (Tuesday). The doctor of the hospital where they were rushed to reported the matter to the police. The doctor said two victims with gunshot injuries were brought to his hospital.

“The doctor also told us that one of them was brought in dead. Our operatives immediately moved to the scene. The one brought in dead to the hospital was later identified as Germani, the real name being Adeboye Ademoroti,” Ojelabi said.

Providing further updates, Ojelabi added that the deceased was the “NURTW chairman for Unit 4, Ilesa.” He said officers recovered cartridges from the scene as investigations continue.

“No arrest yet, but the tactical team has been deployed to the area to support the operatives on the ground. The real name of the deceased is Adeboye Ademoroti. The circumstances surrounding the incident are not clear yet.”

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has condemned the rising tide of political violence in parts of the state, directing the Police Commissioner to crack down on politically motivated killings in Ijesaland.

In a statement signed by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Wednesday, Adeleke appealed to political actors to avoid bloodshed and respect democratic processes.

He lamented the persistent violence in Ilesa and urged politicians to desist from thuggery.
