The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has cautioned serving corps members to use social media responsibly, warning that posts damaging the Scheme’s or Nigeria’s image will face disciplinary consequences.
NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, delivered the message on Friday while addressing members of the 2025 Batch ‘C’ at the Delta State Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku.
According to a post on the NYSC’s Facebook handle, he stressed that corps members must consider the impact of their social media activities on public perception.
Nafiu also reminded Corps members to comply fully with camp rules, avoid unauthorised trips, and pay attention to essential activities.
“Follow simple instructions, be obedient, go for your biometrics and go for your Community Development Service. Learn and respect the cultural values of your host communities and do not misrepresent us at your place of primary assignment,” he said.
The statement read, “The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has warned Corps members against negative usage of the social media.
“The Director General (DG) of the Scheme, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, gave the warning while addressing the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Corps members at the NYSC Delta State Orientation Camp, Issele-Uku.
“Nafiu, who said negative social media post by any Corps member would attract sanctions, urge them to instead create contents that would positively project both the Scheme’s and Nigeria’s image.
“He also warned them against unauthorised journeys, adding, ‘Follow simple instructions, be obedient, go for your biometrics and go for your Community Development Service.
”Learn and respect the cultural values of your host communities and do not misrepresent us at your place of primary assignment’.
“Earlier, the NYSC Delta State Coordinator, Mr. John Kwaghe, had presented a Camp situation report to the DG, saying 2,101 Corps members, comprising 944 male and 1,157 female were deployed to the State in the new batch.
“He added that camp activities had been going on smoothly with the full participation of all officials and Corps members, who had demonstrated high level of discipline.”
Recall that on Wednesday, Brigadier General Nafiu delivered a similar message to Corps members in Rivers State, urging them to embody the values on which the Scheme was founded.
He encouraged them to remain patriotic and let integrity, efficiency, transparency, and commitment define their conduct both during and after their service year.
