Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has reiterated his call for value-driven leadership and national unity following a political consultation visit to Kaduna State on Sunday, where he engaged with party stakeholders and key political figures.
Obi, in a post shared via X on Sunday, disclosed that the visit formed part of his ongoing nationwide consultations aimed at strengthening political engagement and promoting a governance philosophy anchored on competence, character and measurable outcomes.
During the visit, he met with prominent stakeholders, including Dr. Alhaji Ahmed Tijjani, a gubernatorial aspirant, and Senator Lawal Adamu, who represents Kaduna Central in the National Assembly.
According to Obi, his interactions with party members in the state revealed what he described as a genuine commitment to public service rather than mere political ambition.
He noted that the stakeholders demonstrated a shared vision of contributing meaningfully to national development and rebuilding public trust in governance.
The former Anambra State governor stressed the strategic importance of Kaduna in Nigeria’s socio-economic and political landscape.
He described the state as historically symbolic of unity and coexistence, recalling its past as a thriving hub for industry, agriculture and commerce.
While acknowledging the challenges currently facing the state, Obi maintained that Kaduna still possesses significant untapped potential that can be harnessed through disciplined and people-oriented leadership.
He stressed that restoring Kaduna’s past glory would require leaders who are not only competent but also committed to inclusive governance and long-term development goals.
Obi argued that with the right leadership approach, the state could once again play a leading role in national economic growth and social cohesion.
Central to his message was a strong appeal for the revival of unity and peaceful coexistence among citizens.
He warned that societal division remains a major obstacle to progress, noting that sustainable development can only be achieved in an environment where justice, inclusion and mutual respect are prioritised.
The formal Anambra governor urged political leaders and citizens alike to work towards rebuilding trust across ethnic and religious lines.
Obi also used the occasion to advocate a shift in Nigeria’s political culture, calling for a departure from what he described as the “politics of money.”
He urged stakeholders to embrace a system that focuses on competence, integrity and accountability, insisting that leadership should be evaluated based on tangible results and impact on citizens’ lives.
Reflecting on the outcome of the visit, Obi expressed optimism about the future of the country, stating that his engagements in Kaduna had reinforced his belief in the possibility of national renewal.
He said the level of commitment observed among stakeholders gave him renewed confidence that Nigeria can overcome its current challenges through collective effort and responsible leadership.
The visit, he concluded, left him encouraged and hopeful, reaffirming his long-standing message that a new Nigeria — built on unity, fairness and opportunity for all — is achievable.
