Obi’s defection to ADC won’t affect Tinubu’s chances – Joe Igbokwe

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has said the defection of the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), won’t affect the chances of President Bola Tinubu at the polls.

The former Anambra governor on Wednesday officially defected to the coalition-backed ADC.

Obi announced his defection in Enugu on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.

The former presidential candidate said his defection ahead of the 2027 election is aimed transforming and rescuing Nigeria.

“We are ending this year with the hope that in 2026 we will begin a rescue journey,” Obi declared.

“We will resist rigging of election by every lawful means in 2027,” he added.

Obi also vowed that any attempt to rig the 2027 election will be resisted lawfully and legitimately.

He called for early verification of academic records of candidates to avoid pre-election disputes.

He said, “We have all watched those who benefitted from our democracy now becoming accessories of our democracy either through coercion or gangsterism to the opposition.

“We can’t allow this to happen, we will resist it. We now see people celebrating electoral fraud publicly.

“And we are saying that those planning to rig elections in Nigeria come 2027, we will resist it by every means lawful and legitimate.”

Reacting to the development, Igbokwe, sharing the pictures of Obi and the ones snapped during the defection, noted that the addition to the ADC won’t help the party defeat President Tinubu in 2027.

He wrote, “So these are the people that will unseat PBAT? These ones I am seeing here? Some of them I see here cannot win their polling booths? Some of them are koboless to drive anything. They do not have electoral values.

“They do not know how to build bridges. They do not know how to invest in people . We play too much in this Country. Yoruba will say “Eniti Omo Oba Lofi Oba Sere. They do not know PBAT. Ignore PBAT to your peril. I know him very well. Till 2031!!!”
