The Ogun State Government has dismantled shanties and makeshift stalls along the Sango Tollgate axis in a renewed push to reduce frequent road accidents in the area.

The operation, carried out along the boundary between Ogun State and Lagos State, focused on removing structures erected on road setbacks, especially around the tollgate and nearby under-bridge.

Leading the exercise, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Kafayat Lawal, said the action followed repeated warnings and abatement notices issued to traders occupying the corridor.

She stated, “The exercise will free the tollgate and under-bridge of street trading, which frequently leads to loss of lives during accidents. This has become a major concern for the government and well-meaning Nigerians, and we cannot continue to allow such dangerous practices.”

Lawal explained that displaced traders have been provided with an alternative location at Plaza Road, Sango, in collaboration with the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government and the Olota-in-Council.

She stressed that the government would strictly enforce the directive, warning that anyone who returns to trade at the cleared locations would be sanctioned in line with the law.
