Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has declared the Ohunbe Ward 8 bye-election in the state’s Yewa North Local Government Area free and fair.
The election, which saw 19 political parties vying for the coveted position, was a keenly contested affair, but in the end, Moses Opeisa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) proved too strong for his opponents.
According to reports, Opeisa secured 2,255 votes out of a total of 3,263 cast, a clear indication of the trust and confidence the people of Ohunbe have in him and his party.
Speaking on the outcome, the Ward OGSIEC Returning Officer, Kabiru Oyeyemi, praised the voters and party agents for their cooperation, saying the exercise was smooth and peaceful.
The OGSIEC Chairman, Babatunde Osibodu, also commended the people of Ohunbe for their commitment to electing a new Councillor to represent their interests. He described the exercise as peaceful and orderly, a testament to the maturity of the people of Ohunbe.
The Olohunbe of Ohunbe Land, Oba Adekola Oladokun, also expressed his appreciation to the OGSIEC team for conducting a smooth, free, and credible election. He also extolled the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led government for its ongoing development strides across the state, a clear indication of the government’s commitment to the people.
Voters at the collation center were also full of praise for the process, describing it as peaceful and transparent.
Kehinde Fatunbi and Moses Olawale, who were among the voters, commended the electoral officials and security personnel for their professionalism.
The APC’s victory in the bye-election is seen as a boost to the party’s morale, coming as it does after a series of successful elections in the state.
The party’s candidate, Moses Opeisa, is expected to hit the ground running, working tirelessly to address the needs of the people of Ohunbe Ward 8.
