Tragedy struck along the Isiala Ngwa Ntigha section of the Aba-Port Harcourt expressway as an 18-seater bus was involved in an accident, killing one female child.
The incident was disclosed to the Daily Post by Ngozi Ezeoma, the Sector Commander of the Abia State Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).
The FRSC boss said, “It involved a commercial bus with 18 passengers.
“Nine male adults and 5 female adults were injured, while 1 female child died as confirmed on reaching the hospital.”
She added that the injured victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
It was also gathered that the bus, which was conveying passengers from Ebonyi State crashed at about 11 am.
The report said that personnel of the Abia State Emergency Response Team led by Faithwin Obioma Analaba and officers from the Federal Road Safety Commission rescued and took the injured victims to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the official cause of the accident is still awaited from FRSC and other agencies but a transporter, Chukwudi Gideon claimed that the bus suddenly developed a tyre problem and skidded into the bush, where it somersaulted.
