A 21-year-old apprentice, Chiemerie Anieke, has been remanded in a correctional facility over the alleged murder of his employer, Ikechukwu Nwite, and the theft of his funds in Onitsha, Anambra State.

Anieke was remanded alongside his alleged accomplice, Godwin Nnabuike Nwokporo, who is accused of aiding the crime and facilitating the movement of the stolen money.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) arraigned the suspects before the High Court in Onitsha on March 18, 2026.

According to Ikenga, Anieke allegedly killed his employer by striking him on the head with a pestle. He added that the suspect has also been linked to a separate attack on one Ogechukwu Nwite in the Fegge area of Onitsha.

Ikenga further explained that Nwokporo allegedly provided a bank account through which more than ₦8 million belonging to the deceased was transferred.

“Police operatives recovered ₦6 million from the suspects as part of the stolen funds and tendered it as evidence in the ongoing trial,” he said.

He added that the court has ordered that both defendants be remanded in a correctional centre pending the continuation of the case.

The Anambra State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice, warning that individuals involved in criminal activities will be apprehended and prosecuted.
