The General Overseer of Omega Power Ministry (OPM), Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, has shared a detailed account of the ongoing welfare and care of veteran Nollywood actor Kenneth Aguba, revealing that the actor remains under his protection and support as of March 31, 2026.
In a post shared on Facebook on Tuesday, Chinyere recounted how his intervention in Aguba’s life began about seven years ago, following a distressing image that showed the actor living in deplorable conditions on the streets of Enugu.
According to the cleric, Aguba was found sleeping beside a gutter — a sight that moved him to tears, given his admiration for the actor’s work in earlier years.
“About seven years ago, a picture of Aguba living on the street beside a gutter was sent to me. I wept, because I enjoyed his movies when I was much younger,” he wrote.
Moved by compassion, the OPM founder said he immediately arranged for Aguba to be brought from Enugu to Port Harcourt. Upon arrival, the actor was accommodated in one of the church’s free housing estates — part of a broader humanitarian initiative by the ministry.
Chinyere disclosed that OPM has constructed 18 free estates specifically designed for individuals who cannot afford rent, allowing beneficiaries to live without financial burden.
After settling Aguba, the pastor said a caregiver was assigned to assist him with daily activities, including cooking, cleaning, and laundry.
However, the arrangement was plagued by persistent disagreements.
In a bid to provide long-term stability, Chinyere said he considered marriage as a solution. He revealed that despite efforts to match Aguba with a suitable partner — including offering to fully sponsor the marriage — the actor declined all proposals.
“At the time, he was about 50 years or older. However, he rejected the woman I recommended, insisting he would only marry a virgin from Israel,” the pastor explained.
Even after being encouraged to choose a partner from within the church, Aguba reportedly maintained his stance, refusing all alternatives.
Subsequently, Chinyere said he financed the purchase and furnishing of a house for the actor in Enugu, his hometown, with the hope that proximity to familiar surroundings would improve his situation. A new caregiver was also employed, and a monthly allowance was introduced to support his upkeep.
Despite these measures, the challenges persisted, particularly with caregivers, prompting another relocation. The actor was eventually moved into an apartment within a church property in Enugu, where he currently resides.
Providing an update on Aguba’s present condition, Chinyere confirmed that the actor remains under his direct care, with all basic needs — including feeding, clothing, and medical expenses — fully covered by the church.
He revealed that just two weeks ago, the actor underwent a medical check-up, for which he provided ₦300,000 to cover treatment costs.
Following the dismissal of the most recent caregiver, the pastor said he assigned the wife of the OPM Regional Pastor in Enugu to personally attend to Aguba’s needs. According to him, she has taken on responsibilities such as cooking, cleaning, and washing without accepting any form of payment, despite repeated offers.
Highlighting the actor’s vulnerability, Chinyere noted that Aguba has no known family support system and expressed concern that releasing him fully into society could result in a return to homelessness.
“Aguba has no one. If I release him back to Enugu fully, he may return to the streets where he was once found,” he stated.
Reaffirming his commitment, the cleric declared that the actor has become part of his family and vowed to continue caring for him indefinitely.
“Aguba is now my family. I will continue to take care of him until the Lord calls him home. And by the grace of God, the church will also take responsibility for his burial,” he added.
Aguba, once a familiar face in Nollywood productions, had fallen on hard times before his widely publicised rescue by OPM, drawing national attention to issues of welfare and support for aging actors in Nigeria’s film industry.
