The Osun State Accord Party has alerted the Department of State Services (DSS) about a plot by unknown individuals, allegedly backed by an unnamed opposition party, to hold an unauthorised governorship primary election in the state.
This comes after the party’s “legitimate” primary on December 10, 2025, which produced incumbent governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke as the party’s candidate for the 2026 elections.
In a letter to the DSS Director in Osogbo, the party caretaker chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, expressed concern over the potential for political instability, urging the agency to intervene and prevent the “kangaroo primary” planned between now and December 15, 2025.
Akande emphasised the need to maintain Osun’s political calm, stating the party’s conducted primary was monitored by stakeholders, including INEC.
The statement read, “Our attention have been drawn to the news of some hoodlums, not known to our party and sponsored by opposition party are planning to hold a kangaroo Governorship Primary between now and 15th December 2025 in a location not yet disclosed with aim of causing political crisis in the state.
“It is in public record that Osun Accord had conducted its 2026 Governorship Primary on the 10th December, 2025 at Oasis Events center, been monitored by stakeholders including you organisation and Independent National Electoral Commission with representative from both the National and State office in which His Excellency Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke emerged as the winner of the primary election.
“We hereby call on your organisation to be vigilant and stop such evil move so as to maintain the good political stability we are enjoying in this state.”
Recall that the national leadership of the Accord Party had earlier cleared Governor Adeleke to participate in its gubernatorial primary barely 24 hours after the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member pitched his tent with them.
In a statement, Elder Ibe Thankgod, Chairman of the Accord Party Screening Committee, confirmed that Adeleke was screened ahead of last Wednesday’s gubernatorial primary.
He noted that Governor Adeleke met all necessary requirements, and the committee has cleared him as the sole aspirant for the party’s governorship ticket, completing all required documentation with relevant authorities.
In addition, the statement revealed that the committee presented Adeleke with a certificate of clearance and described him as a worthy gubernatorial aspirant.
