Police operatives have arrested one Emmanuel Odeh, a suspected fake lawyer, in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Odeh allegedly posed as a legitimate attorney for nearly a decade, duping numerous innocent Nigerians of their hard-earned money.
According to the Zonal Public Relations Officer, DSP Ade Ogunyemi, the arrest was made possible through a discreet investigation by the X-Squad Section, following a petition from one of the victims.
Investigations revealed that Odeh operated under the name “A. O. Emmanuel, Legal Practitioner and Public Consultant” and engaged in legal representation, estate agency, and public consultancy.
Speaking on the arrest at the weekend, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 11, Fred Ekokotu, said the suspected operated in Lagos and Abuja.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police called on Nigerians to verify the authenticity of legal practitioners before engaging their services to avoid falling victim to such scams, adding that the suspect will be arraigned in court for prosecution after the conclusion of the investigation.
