Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen have reportedly abducted a staff member of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, AAUA, Omoniyi Eleyinmi.
The incident was brought to light through a Save-Our-Soul message circulated by a senior academic at the university, who spoke under the condition of anonymity.
The anonymous lecturer said the incident happened on Monday evening at the home of the victim in Supare-Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
He revealed that Eleyinmi, before his abduction, served as the Faculty Officer in the Faculty of Education and is also a member of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU).
Eleyinmi was said to have been abducted shortly after arriving from work at approximately 7:00 p.m. along the Akungba-Supare road.
According to the message, quoted by The Nation, the gunmen stormed the premises, firing gunshots into the air to disperse onlookers before taking Eleyinmi.
“One of our colleagues and SSANU members, Mr Omoniyi Eleyinmi, was abducted this evening at his residence in Supare-Akoko shortly after returning from work,” the university source confirmed.
Efforts to get an official confirmation from the Ondo State Police Command were ongoing at the time of reporting.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, said he was not yet briefed on the matter but assured that details would be provided once available.
