The Federal Government has identified patriotism as a key pillar for rebuilding Nigeria’s moral fabric and achieving national reorientation values.

Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, made this known during a courtesy visit from Abdullahi Omaki, founder of Community Peace Initiatives Network, in Abuja on Friday.

According to Idris, the ministry is committed to fostering national unity, promoting core values, and ensuring Nigerians work together to build a peaceful and prosperous country.

He emphasised that the current state of the nation requires a collective effort to address the challenges facing the country, and patriotism is essential in driving this effort.

By promoting patriotism, the ministry aims to create a sense of shared citizenship and responsibility among Nigerians, which will ultimately contribute to the country’s development and progress.

Idris commended the initiatives of the Community Peace Initiatives Network in institutionalising peacebuilding and promoting dialogue among Nigerians.

“Patriotism, mentorship, and value orientation remain central to rebuilding the nation’s moral and social fabric,” he said.

The minister also highlighted the role of the National Orientation Agency in driving national values and unity.

The minister further disclosed that the government is set to inaugurate Nigeria’s Values Charter to strengthen citizens’ commitment to ethical conduct and national development.

This initiative, he noted, is part of the government’s effort to promote national unity and development.

For his part, Omaki explained that his organisation aims to work closely with youth groups to “close visible gaps in national unity and diversity at the grassroots level”.

He emphasised the need for partnership between government, civil society, and the private sector to address corruption, ethnic biases, and religious intolerance.
