A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has declared Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola better known as FRYO as its governorship candidate for the 2026 Osun State election
The primary election commenced on Tuesday, with a total of 957 delegates from the 30 local government areas and the Modakeke area office exercising their right to vote.
The exercise took place just 12 hours after Governor Ademola Adeleke withdrew from the party amid an internal crisis, removing his name from the list of aspirants.
Despite Adeleke’s exit, the PDP’s National Organising Secretary, Hon. Theophilus Shan, affirmed that the primary would continue as scheduled.
According to Humphery Abba, Chairman of the Primary Committee, 957 delegates had been accredited, out of a total of 990.
The exercise was conducted under the supervision of officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), including its Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, and with security personnel present to ensure a smooth process.
Despite announcing his resignation from the party, the name of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke appeared on the ballot paper for the PDP governorship primary.
The resignation, contained in a letter dated November 4, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in Sagba/Abogunde Ward 2, Ede, Osun State, cites the ongoing national leadership crisis within the party as the reason for his decision.
In the letter, Governor Adeleke expressed gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities afforded him, including his elections as Senator representing Osun West and as Governor of Osun State under the party’s platform.
The letter reads, “Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my Membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect.
“I thank the People’s Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (Represented Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the People’s Democratic Party.”
