PDP knocks government, police over Kajuru kidnap response

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has berated the Federal Government and Kaduna State authorities for their response to the mass kidnapping of approximately 163 worshippers in Kajuru community, describing their actions as a “dangerous pattern” of normalising insecurity and obscuring the truth.

In a statement signed by National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong on Wednesday, the party expressed outrage over the initial denial by the Kaduna State Police and Kajuru Local Government Chairman, calling it “deeply hurtful” and “manifest levity” towards a serious security matter.

The statement noted that the police were alerted promptly about the kidnapping but chose to prioritise the government’s image over taking action to rescue the victims.

The Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Rabiu, had initially dismissed the incident as “peddled by conflict entrepreneurs” and demanded details of victims, while the Kajuru Local Government Chairman denied any kidnap incident occurred.

In its reaction, the PDP demanded an immediate public apology from the Commissioner of Police and the Chairman for their “irresponsible conduct and failure to protect the people”.

The party also called on the Federal Government to deploy a high-powered security team to rescue the kidnapped individuals and return them safely to their families.

The statement urged the administration to abandon “performative governance” and focus on solving problems rather than seeking applause.

“One hundred and sixty-three families are waiting. They deserve action, not excuses,” it concluded.
