The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the postponement of its upcoming governorship primaries in Osun State, originally scheduled for December 2nd, 2025, citing unresolved internal disputes within the party’s national leadership.
The announcement was made by the Osun State Chairman of the PDP, Hon. Sunday Bisi, during a press briefing on Monday.
Bisi explained that Governor Ademola Adeleke, the incumbent governor and sole aspirant for the PDP gubernatorial ticket, had fulfilled all pre-primary requirements, including purchasing and submitting nomination forms between October 13-25, 2025, and clearing the party’s screening committee on October 30th, 2025.
“He was screened, cleared without reservations, and issued a Certificate of Clearance in accordance with party procedures,” Bisi affirmed.
However, the party chairman cited escalating conflicts involving suspensions and counter-suspensions of key national officers as the reason for the postponement.
These disruptions prevented the mandatory ward and local government congresses scheduled for November 24th and 29th from holding – congresses critical for electing delegates for the primaries.
“The crisis reached a point where the statutory ad-hoc ward and local government congresses could not hold,” Bisi stated, adding that related legal battles are ongoing in various courts.
Consequently, he announced that the PDP can no longer proceed with the December 2nd primaries as planned.
In addition, Bisi disclosed that Governor Adeleke might withdraw his candidacy if the national leadership crisis isn’t resolved within the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s timeline.
“The information at my disposal is that Governor Ademola Adeleke may no longer be interested in seeking the nomination… except a resolution recognized by INEC is reached within the INEC timeline,” he said.
While stressing the party’s commitment to transparency, Bisi assured that both state and national PDP leaders are working to resolve the crisis lawfully and promptly.
“We assure you that the leadership of the party is working round the clock to ensure a lawful, workable, and timely resolution to the challenges at hand,” he concluded.
The postponement leaves the PDP’s Osun gubernatorial ambitions in limbo, with the 2026 elections looming. The party did not announce a new date for the primaries.
