Former federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has expressed deep concern over the recurring wave of violence in Plateau State, following the latest killings that disrupted Palm Sunday celebrations.
Reacting in a post shared on X on Monday, Sani painted a vivid picture of a state richly blessed by nature but repeatedly scarred by bloodshed. He highlighted Plateau’s unique landscape, noting its rolling hills, mild climate, fertile land, scenic waterfalls, and abundant mineral resources, which place it among Nigeria’s most naturally endowed regions.
Despite these advantages, the former senator lamented that cycles of violence have continued to overshadow the state’s vast potential, discouraging development and undermining its appeal.
Calling for urgent action, Sani urged leaders and stakeholders to prioritise peacebuilding efforts and bring an end to the persistent killings.
“Plateau State is gifted with what nature denies many others — breathtaking hills, hospitable climate, fertile soil, and rare minerals,” he said.
He added that while the state holds immense promise, it remains trapped in a cycle of avoidable violence.
“Anything can grow on the Plateau except peace,” Sani remarked, appealing for unity and lasting peace in the troubled region.
