Police arrest six suspected robbers, recover stolen items in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended six individuals suspected to be members of a robbery syndicate operating within Ibadan, in a renewed effort to curb criminal activities in the state.

The arrests were carried out by operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit following credible intelligence about a group known for using tricycles to rob unsuspecting residents of their valuables.

In a statement signed by Ayanlade Olayinka, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command on Tuesday, the suspects were reportedly hiding in a hotel around the 7UP/Academy area of the city.

Acting on the intelligence, police operatives launched a coordinated sting operation at the location, leading to the arrest of the six suspects. Those apprehended include Kelvin Daniel (21), Idris Ramon (25), Christopher Solomon (35), Mohamed Telim (21), Taored Aderibigbe (30), and Adekunle Tolani (27).

Items recovered from the suspects include 18 mobile phones, one Opay ATM card, a National Identification Number (NIN) card, and a tricycle with registration number OYO SHK 508 QP, believed to have been used for their operations.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects have confessed to being members of a criminal syndicate responsible for robbing residents across the Ibadan metropolis.

The Command commended members of the public for providing timely and credible information that contributed to the success of the operation, stressing the importance of community partnership in crime prevention.

It also assured residents that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be charged to court upon completion.

The police reiterated their commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to continue supporting security agencies with useful information.
