The Nigeria Police Force has clarified that comments by the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police denying an abduction incident in Kurmin Wali were misinterpreted, and confirmed that the incident did occur.

In a statement on X, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Force Public Relations Officer, explained that the Commissioner’s remarks were intended to prevent unnecessary panic while facts were being confirmed.

“Comments made by the Commissioner of Police were intended to prevent unnecessary panic while facts were being confirmed. Those remarks, which have since been widely misinterpreted, were not a denial of the incident but a measured response pending confirmation of details from the field,” Hundeyin said.

The police have since confirmed the abduction of worshippers from two churches in Kurmin Wali, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, and have launched coordinated security operations to rescue the victims, according to the spokesperson.

“Subsequent verification from operational units and intelligence sources has confirmed that the incident did occur,” Hundeyin stated.

The statement added that the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the deployment of critical operational and intelligence assets to Kajuru and surrounding communities to locate and safely rescue the victims.

The police appealed for patience and cooperation from the public, urging reliance on official communications to avoid speculation that could jeopardise operations.
