The Nigeria Police Force has stepped up efforts to address insecurity in Southern Kaduna through a series of high-level engagements with local communities aimed at promoting peace and strengthening collaboration.

Leading the initiative, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Shehu Umar Nadada, alongside the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, met with stakeholders across several local government areas in the region.

According to a Thursday statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, the outreach covered Kachia, Sanga, Jere, Zango, Kajuru, Kafanchan and surrounding communities.

During the visits, the police leadership held discussions with traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth representatives, and Fulani groups, including members of Miyetti Allah, focusing on the root causes of insecurity and ways to restore lasting peace.

“Discussions focused on enhancing collaboration between security agencies and the community, addressing farmer-herder conflicts, and promoting intelligence sharing to tackle criminal activities effectively,” the statement said.

The DIG stressed the need for unity among residents, warning against actions that could inflame tensions in the already fragile region.

“He emphasised the importance of peaceful coexistence, urging all residents to live in harmony and avoid actions capable of escalating tensions,” the statement added.

Nadada also reassured communities of the police force’s commitment to protecting lives and property, noting that security agencies remain resolute in curbing criminal activities across the state.

The engagement sessions provided a platform for residents to voice concerns, share experiences, and propose practical solutions to the persistent security challenges affecting the area.

The Kaduna State Police Command said the initiative aligns with its broader strategy of community-based policing, which prioritises trust-building and cooperation between law enforcement and citizens.

Reaffirming its commitment, the command called on residents to support security agencies with timely information, stressing that collective effort remains key to achieving peace and stability in Southern Kaduna.
