Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have apprehended two individuals in connection with a stolen vehicle case and successfully recovered the car in Akure.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh. He explained that the operation stemmed from an ongoing investigation into allegations of conspiracy, theft, and handling of stolen property.
According to police records, the case was initially reported on February 27, 2026, by a resident, Adeyemi Robert. He told authorities that his Toyota Camry, bearing registration number AH173WWD, was stolen on February 14 after he parked it outside a social gathering on Sijuade Street in Akure. The vehicle was discovered missing when he returned from the event.
Following the report, detectives launched an intensive investigation, combining intelligence gathering with other strategies aimed at tracking down the car and those responsible.
Police findings led officers to a 40-year-old suspect, Awolo Akingbade, who was found with the vehicle. He was taken in for questioning, during which investigators uncovered that the car had allegedly been sold to him by another suspect, identified as Adeyemi David.
Subsequent inquiries resulted in the arrest of David, believed to be the main suspect in the theft. Authorities say preliminary evidence suggests he stole the vehicle before selling it.
The recovered Toyota Camry has since been secured as evidence, while both suspects reportedly provided useful information to assist the investigation.
Police confirmed that the suspects have been charged to court following the conclusion of investigations.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, praised the officers involved for their swift and professional response, which led to the recovery of the vehicle and arrest of the suspects.
He reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to protect lives and property across Ondo State and cautioned those involved in criminal activities to desist.
The police also urged residents to stay alert and continue to share timely and credible information that could aid crime prevention efforts.
