No fewer than 11 passengers escaped unhurt on Sunday after a private jet operated by Flybird Airlines crash-landed at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano State.
Airport officials told Premium Times that aeroplane, which originated from Abuja, reportedly overshot the runway at approximately 9:30 a.m. It was carrying 11 persons, including three crew members.
A malfunction of the landing gear reportedly caused the incident.
The incident forced other incoming aircraft to divert from their initial flight destination as landing signals were withheld due to the blockage of the runway.
Emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the scene, and all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated from the aircraft, with no injuries or casualties reported.
Airport authorities swiftly secured the affected area to prevent further risk and commenced preliminary safety procedures.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) regarding the incident involving the private airliner.
