Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, and his brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, have been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force during the ongoing #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest in Abuja.

The incident was confirmed in a post by human rights activist and convener of the Take It Back movement, Omoyele Sowore, who demanded their immediate release.

He wrote on his social media handles, “The PoliceNG team deployed to brutalize #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protesters arrested Nnamdi Kanu’s brother, and his lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, as well as innocent bystanders.

“They were beaten and taken to the FCT command. The police must release them immediately.”

Also, Ejimakor posted on Monday, “We’ve just been arrested. Myself, Prince Emanuel and others. We are at FCT COMMAND CID. Myself, Fine Boy and others. No 1 Zaria Steeet, Gariki 2, Abuja.”

One of Kanu’s brothers, Kanunta Kanu, also confirmed the arrest in post, saying, “Breaking news. FCT police COMMAND CID Abuja, No 1 Zaria Steeet, Gariki Area 2, illegally arrested Barrister Aloy Ejimako and Prince Emmanuel Kanu, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s Special counsel and youngest brother and others. They should be released immediately because, it is their right to protest.”

Recall that the demonstrators, who are demanding their immediate release release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), had earlier been dispersed by security operatives who fired live bullets and teargas.

Kanu, who is facing a seven-count charge on terrorism and treasonable felony, has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021.

The IPOB leader was first arrested in 2015, granted bail in 2017, and fled after a military invasion of his home in Abia State.

Despite several court rulings ordering his release, the federal government has yet to comply, a situation that continues to stir public outrage and renewed agitation.

Meanwhile, the demonstrators have resumed the protest.
