The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has instructed all party officials concurrently holding statutory government positions to relinquish their government offices, in accordance with the party’s constitution and a previous directive issued by Governor Dapo Abiodun.
The directive was conveyed through a statement issued by Femi Nuberu, the state APC Publicity Secretary, which was made available to journalists on Thursday.
The announcement comes as party congresses kick off across the state, starting with ward-level meetings on Wednesday, aimed at filling vacancies at various party levels through statutory processes.
The statement partly reads, “The All Progressives Congress (APC), Ogun State Chapter, wishes to issue a clear directive to all party executives holding statutory government appointments, in line with the earlier pronouncement by His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun CON, and in total compliance with the provisions of our Party Constitution.
“The party wishes to remind all affected officers that holding dual executive positions in both government and the party structure is inconsistent with the principles of separation of powers and the internal discipline enshrined in the APC Constitution.”
Those affected include individuals holding positions such as Secretary to the Local Government, Supervisors, Special Advisers, Consultants, and Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) Secretaries.
The party added, “Any person within the categories listed above who wishes to continue serving as an executive member must submit a written letter of resignation from their statutory appointment. Such letters are to be addressed to the Ministry of Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs and the Local Government Service Commission.
“Copies should also be sent to the respective Council Chairman and the Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA) of the affected Local Government Council. For the resignation to be deemed valid and effective, it must be duly acknowledged and received by all relevant authorities.”
Emphasising that the directive is not punitive, the APC stated it is a necessary measure to uphold the integrity of party structures and ensure compliance with constitutional provisions.
The party reassured members that upon submitting the required resignation, affected individuals would retain their party executive offices at the ward or zone level from which their positions originated.
The statement urged all impacted officers to comply promptly, as the party seeks to strengthen internal governance and align with best political practices.
