Rivers: Fubara appoints new SSG

Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara has appointed Benibo Anabraba as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

Dr Honour Sirawoo, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communications, made this known in a statement on Monday.

The statement reads, “His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, Governor of Rivers State, has approved the appointment of Hon Benibo Anabraba as Secretary to the Rivers State Government.

“The new Secretary to Rivers State Government will be sworn in by His Excellency, on Monday, October 13, 2025, by 4 pm at the State Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Port Harcourt.”

Benibo Anabraba is a prominent politician in Rivers State. He currently serves as the Member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, representing Akuku-Toru II, and holds the position of Minority Leader. Anabraba was first elected to the House of Assembly in the 2011 general election under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and later switched allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to support Governor Chibuike Amaechi’s administration.

His appointment marks a new chapter in the Fubara administration as it continues to strengthen its governance team.

Before his recent appointment as SSG, Anabraba served as the Commissioner for Housing in Rivers State. In this role, he worked closely with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) to enhance public infrastructure in rural areas and ensure safer building standards. His efforts aimed to develop housing estates in the hinterlands and coastal regions through public-private partnerships, showcasing his commitment to improving the lives of Rivers State residents.
