Rivers: suspected car snatcher in viral video arrested by police

The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended a suspected car snatcher, Iruo Young, in connection with a viral video that showed the theft of a Toyota Avalon at gunpoint in Choba, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

The police made the arrest after launching a manhunt for the suspects captured in the video, intercepting and robbing a car owner.

According to the police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, in a statement she signed on Thursday, the suspect confessed to the crime and provided detailed information about his involvement in the robbery

She said, “The incident which occurred at about 1500hrs involved the snatching of a Toyota Avalon car at gunpoint.

“Through intelligence-led Policing and technical support, operatives of the Command have successfully apprehended one of the suspects, identified as Iruo Young M. ‘m’ aged 42 years, at his hideout in Ikoku, Port Harcourt.

“During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime, providing detailed information about his involvement in the robbery incident.”

Iringe-Koko added that efforts were ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the gang and recover the stolen vehicle as well as the firearms used in the operation.

The state Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, commended the operatives for their swift response and diligence.

He also thanked residents for sharing credible information that aided the arrest, warning that criminals would find no hiding place in any part of the state.
