A devastating road accident occurred early this morning at Majidun, Ikorodu Road, Lagos, claiming the life of an adult female passenger and leaving six others severely injured.
This was made public by Adebayo Taofiq, the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) in a statement he issued on Sunday.
He disclosed that the crash involved a Volkswagen commercial bus (EPE 494 XM) and a stationary tipper truck. Preliminary investigations reveal the bus’ brake failure and excessive speed caused the driver to lose control and collide with the truck.
Emergency responders from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) swiftly arrived at the scene, where they found the mangled wreckage and panicked survivors.
The injured – five females and one male – were rushed to Benic Special Hospital for urgent medical attention, while the deceased was conveyed to General Hospital, Ikorodu, for formal documentation.
In a coordinated operation, LASTMA personnel pursued and apprehended the tipper truck driver who attempted to escape, and the commercial bus driver was also arrested. Both suspects were handed over to Ipakodo Police Division for thorough investigation.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed profound sorrow over the incident, extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
He reiterated the agency’s commitment to promoting road safety, urging motorists to avoid excessive speed and ensure vehicle maintenance.
