The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has instructed the council chairmen and vice chairmen to reverse any appointment that they have made since assuming office.
Sanwo-Olu made this known in a statement by his Permanent Secretary, Kikelomo Bolarinwa and addressed to the 20 Local Government and 37 Local Council Development Area chairmen.
In the letter, dated July 31, the governor reiterated his stance against council appointments without his approval, noting that the only office they are allowed to fill is the Office of the Chief of Staff.
Bolarinwa wrote, “I write to refer to the directive of Mr. Governor at the swearing-in ceremony in respect of the appointment of Political Office Holders in the Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas particularly the Supervisors, Special Advisers and Senior Special Assistants.
“I am to reiterate that, the appointment of the Chief of Staff is the only appointment approved/permissible as you assume office, while other appointments should be stepped down until further directive.”
She continued, “You are enjoined to note the above and reverse any appointment that has been made except the Chief of Staff.”
