Senegal has secured a spot in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final after defeating Egypt 1-0 in a tightly contested semi-final match held at the Grand Stade de Tanger in Morocco.

Sadio Mane scored the decisive goal, sending the Lions of Teranga into the final.

The match was a repeat of the 2021 AFCON final, which Senegal won on penalties. This time, Senegal’s defensive resilience and tactical discipline paid off, as they managed to contain Egypt’s attacks and capitalise on a crucial opportunity.

Egypt, led by Mohamed Salah, had a disappointing performance, failing to register a single shot on target throughout the match.

Senegal’s goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy, made crucial saves to keep Egypt at bay, while Mane’s goal proved to be the difference-maker.

Senegal will on Sunday face the winner of the Nigeria vs Morocco match in the AFCON final.
