Popular Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has returned to Nigeria after a period of absence, using the occasion to send a message to his critics and detractors, whom he referred to as “haters.”

In a post he made via Facebook upon his return on Wednesday , Gumi expressed gratitude to Allah for his safe return to the country.

Gumi, known for his outspoken views on various issues, including security and interfaith dialogue, said, “My sincere apology to haters. A sad news for them. I am back to Nigeria, my beloved country, a country of free speech and freedom of religion, hearty and healthy.”

The cleric prayed for the nation’s protection from what he described as “evil minds,” saying, “Thanks to Allah the Almighty. May Allah protect the whole nation from evil minds. Amin!”

Meanwhile, a netizen, Nathan D Jonathan, responded to Gumi’s post saying, “Nobody hates you, sir. But you brought this upon yourself”.

Replying Jonathan, the Islamic cleric said, “No man without haters. Even Jesus christ- peace be upon him had and still has enemies. So it’s natural what ever good you do some will criticise and seek for your head.”
