Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has raised an alarm over an alleged plot to harm Emmanuel Kanu (Fineboy), brother of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, and his lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, who are currently in prison.

Sowore, who has been a vocal critic of the Nigerian government’s handling of Kanu’s case, expressed his concerns over the alleged plot, stating that it is a desperate attempt by the government to silence Kanu’s family and legal team.

He wrote via X on Tuesday, “URGENT: We have been informed that plans are allegedly in place at Kuje prison to harm Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother, Fineboy and Aloy Ejimakor, his Special Counsel, inside Kuje prison by special warders assigned by the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

According to Sowore, the alleged plot is part of a larger scheme by the Nigerian government to perpetuate human rights abuses and suppress dissenting voices.

Nnamdi Kanu has been in detention since June 2021, when he was arrested and extradited to Nigeria from Kenya. His trial has been marred by controversy, with many accusing the government of violating his human rights.

Emmanuel Kanu and Aloy Ejimakor were arrested and detained in connection with their involvement in the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest held in Abuja on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday arraigned Ejimakor, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, and ten others arrested at the protest ground.

The suspects were brought before a court in the Federal Capital Territory following allegations that the protest disrupted public movement and violated an existing court order.

Court documents shared by former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Professor Chidi Odinkalu, revealed that the accused persons were charged with inciting disturbance and breaching public peace.

According to the police, the protesters obstructed the free movement of other citizens, disrupted traffic flow, and chanted war songs while demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

Earlier, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today that Ejimakor, Prince Kanu, and others would be charged after investigations were concluded.

Hundeyin said, “We arrested Nnamdi Kanu’s brother and his lawyer because they insisted on accessing restricted areas.

Alongside them, six others were also arrested around the Transcorp area for the same reason, making a total of eight suspects.

They are at the State CID, and once investigations are completed, they will face prosecution.”

He emphasized that the police would not tolerate actions that threaten public order or disregard lawful directives.
