Super Eagles trash Gabon to reach World Cup playoff final

Super Eagles have secured their spot in the African World Cup playoff final with a thrilling 4-1 win over Gabon in Morocco.

Victor Osimhen led the charge with a stunning brace, including two goals in extra time, to seal Nigeria’s place in the final.

Akor Adams opened the scoring for Nigeria in the 78th minute, but Gabon leveled just before the end of regular time through Mario Lemina. Chidera Ejuke restored Nigeria’s lead in the 97th minute, and Osimhen sealed the victory with goals in the 102nd and 113th minutes .

The Super Eagles will now face the winner of Cameroon vs DR Congo on Sunday, November 16, for a chance to represent Africa in the inter-confederation play-offs.

Meanwhile, Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar he felicitated with the team over their victory.

In a post he shared via his social media handles on Thursday, Atiku wrote, “Proud of the @NGSuperEagles for giving Nigeria a fighting chance in the 2026 World Cup Africa playoff final. -AA #NGAGAB”
