Northern stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have endorsed Tanimu Turaki, a former Minister, as their consensus candidate for National Chairman.
The announcement was made by the Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri on Wednesday night ahead of the party’s convention slated for November in Ibadan, Oyo State.
He announced, “We have adopted a consensus candidate to represent the North and by extension, Nigeria as the chairman of the PDP and that gentleman is Tanimu Turaki (SAN).”
Fintiri, flanked by other stakeholders, stated that other aspirants can still contest if they disagree with the decision.
The decision followed intensive consultations at a meeting of Northern PDP stakeholders in Abuja, where Turaki was unanimously chosen.
The endorsement follows a weekend gathering of Northern PDP leaders, where the chairmanship slot was zoned to the North-West geopolitical zone to promote regional balance and party cohesion.
