Suspected herders have reportedly attacked some farming communities in Karim Lamido Local Government Area in Taraba State.
A yet-to-be-identified resident was killed during the attack, while over 100 houses were burnt down.
The attack was carried out on Wednesday night in the Bandawa Gwenzu community, which comprises Gwenzu, Langwanshin and Danzhan.
The incident was confirmed by Ishaya Peter, the youth leader of the community on Thursday.
Peter condemned the attack, adding that residents scamper for safety when they suddenly heard gunshots from afar.
All attempts to stop the arsonists failed, according to Peter, who added that the herders had issued hours of alarm to security agencies before the attack, but no action was taken to avert the incident.
“We could not stand the attack because they came with guns and we are peace-loving people without weapons except our bow and arrow, cutlasses, that is all,” he stated.
“One of us who died was due to his inability to swim while crossing the river, as they attacked us. The villages were deserted, and we are still counting our losses.
“Women and children have been asked to leave the villages because we do not know when or where they will attack,” the youth leader said.
Attempts to reach the Taraba State Police Command have proven abortive.
