President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally inaugurated the Opebi–Mende–Ojota Link Bridge in Lagos, marking a significant addition to the state’s expanding transport infrastructure aimed at improving mobility and easing chronic congestion.
The commissioning was carried out on Wednesday on the President’s behalf by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who described the project as a critical intervention in addressing traffic bottlenecks across some of the busiest commercial corridors in the state.
Developed under the administration of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the bridge is part of the THEMES+ development agenda, with officials noting that the multi-billion-naira project reflects the government’s commitment to modernising urban infrastructure.
Constructed by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, the bridge was completed within an accelerated timeframe of less than two years, highlighting the state’s drive to deliver key projects efficiently.
The new link is expected to open up alternative routes for motorists navigating heavily congested areas such as Opebi, Allen Avenue and Maryland, while providing a direct connection to Ojota and other parts of Ikeja.
Authorities say the development will cut travel time, decongest existing roads and enhance traffic circulation within the metropolis.
Speaking at the ceremony, government representatives emphasised the economic value of the project, noting that improved connectivity would support business activities by enabling the smoother movement of people and goods across Lagos’ commercial hubs.
The bridge forms part of a wider push by the Lagos State Government to upgrade infrastructure, with recent projects including the Lekki Deep Sea Port and the expansion of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit system.
Officials insist that sustained investment in transport remains essential to positioning Lagos as a competitive and resilient megacity.
