Tinubu has nothing to gain from Nigeria’s insecurity – Anthony Sani

A former Secretary General of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Anthony Sani, has stated that President Bola Tinubu stands to gain nothing from the menace of insecurity ravaging Nigeria, suggesting that his efforts, though perhaps yielding insufficient results, are genuine.

Sani who spoke exclusively to newstellers.ng on Saturday urged Nigerians to offer constructive suggestions on how to tackle the menace, while also acknowledging the scarcity of resources.

He said, “Why would President Bola Tinubu not be sincere in his fight against insecurity posed by insurgents in North East, bandits in North West, clashes between herders and farmers in North Central zone and by separatists in South East? The president has nothing to gain from insecurity.

“If Nigerians are not satisfied with the fight against insecurity, they should suggest how best to go about it amid paucity of resources. Enough number of trained and equipped security personnel who are well motivated to secure the nation require resources which is scarce.”

On the military intervention threat by the United States President, Donald Trump, Sani expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of the intervention.

Instead, the critic advocated strategic support from foreign countries, focusing on intelligence sharing and arms supply.

“I do not believe foreign intervention can be helpful considering how America has intervened in many countries to no avail. Any support from foreign countries should be in the areas of sharing intelligence and supply of arms needed for fighting the terrorists,” Sani stressed.

Nigeria has been grappling with escalating insecurity issues, particularly in the northern regions.

The recent surge in mass school abductions has led to widespread closures, with states like Niger, Plateau, Taraba, and Katsina shutting down schools until further notice. In one of the most recent incidents, gunmen abducted over 303 students and 12 teachers from St. Mary’s School in Niger State’s Papiri community.

This incident follows another school attack in Kebbi State, where 25 female students were kidnapped, highlighting the growing threat of banditry and insurgency in the region.
