President Bola Tinubu has conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to Wilfred Ndidi, midfielder for the Super Eagles, following the passing of his father, Sunday Ndidi.

Sunday Ndidi reportedly died in a road accident on Tuesday in Umunede, near Agbor, Delta State.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu described the death of Sunday Ndidi as “tragic” and expressed his heartfelt sympathies with Wilfred Ndidi and his family during this difficult time.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of Sunday Ndidi. I share in the grief of his family, friends and associates, particularly Wilfred Ndidi, who shared a strong bond with his father as a mentor and guide in his remarkable career as an exceptional footballer.

“There is no doubt that Sunday’s modest beginnings and honesty greatly impacted those who looked up to him for inspiration,” the President said.

Tinubu prayed that God would comfort the Ndidi family and grant eternal rest to the soul of the deceased.

Recall that the senior Ndidi, a retired military officer, was involved in a road accident in Umunede and was confirmed dead after being rushed to a hospital in Agbor.

Ndidi’s club, Leicester City, also confirmed the incident on Tuesday.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of our footballer Wilfred Ndidi’s esteemed father, Sunday Ndidi, in a fatal traffic accident,” the club said in a statement.
