Tinubu not cause of PDP’s problems, says Fayose

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, on Wednesday exonerated President Bola Tinubu amid the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Fayose said this on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television, describing the party as dead.

“President Tinubu should not be blamed for PDP’s problems. The PDP is sick and remains perpetually sick without a cure in view.

“Those who killed the party know themselves. There is a difference between a former governor and a sitting governor,” Fayose said.

The two-term governor said he wouldn’t be among those that will resurrect the main opposition party, hinting that the few governors still in the PDP are considering dumping the main opposition party.

Fayose categorically said it would be unfair to blame Tinubu for the recent defection of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, and his Bayelsa State counterpart, Duoye Diri to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The PDP’s problem did not start today. I am not a member of the APC and I will never be. I didn’t hide my support for Asiwaju; I consider him a leader in Nigeria and particularly from our zone.

“Don’t tell me I am among those who want to cure PDP; I don’t want to cure PDP. Majority of the people that are there now know what they are doing.”

The former governor, who remains a card-carrying member of the PDP, revealed that three more governors are preparing to abandon the party, leaving it with just five.

“Let me tell you, there are three more governors that will leave soon.

“There will be five remaining. The five remaining, one of them will struggle to catch the ticket, and they all know that the ticket is an ordinary tissue paper,” he stated.

Fayose attributed the party’s downfall to infighting among its leadership, accusing them of prioritizing personal interests and control over the party’s unity and survival.

“They are largely killing the party because they want to control it. This is what happened in 2023,” he added.
