President Bola Tinubu has commended the Super Eagles for their valiant efforts in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, despite their heartbreaking loss to the Democratic Republic of Congo in the playoffs on Sunday.

In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Monday, the President urged the team to put the disappointment behind them and focus on the upcoming African Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place in Morocco from December 2025 to January 2026.

President Tinubu acknowledged the pain of missing out on the World Cup for the second consecutive time but emphasized the need for the team to regroup and refocus on the African Cup of Nations.

“Notwithstanding the unfortunate loss, we must commend the players for their efforts and continue to support them. We must now plug all the loopholes. Our football administrators, players, and indeed all stakeholders must go back to the drawing board,” the President said.

The President charged the Super Eagles to recover their lost glory, saying, “Now is the time to focus all efforts on the Cup of Nations. Our Super Eagles must recover the lost glory.”
