President Bola Tinubu has directed the transfer of the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation to the Presidency as part of plans to enhance the coordination of geospatial data management and provide more direct oversight of national mapping and land administration priorities.
This was disclosed late Thursday by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, which was presided over by the President.
The minister hinted that the move is consistent with the administration’s reform agenda and its increasing dependence on geospatial intelligence for planning, infrastructure development, and security mapping.
The OSGoF is the country’s apex mapping agency, responsible for providing geospatial information, data, and services.
Before its recent transfer to the Presidency, the Office was an extra-ministerial office supervised by the Minister of Works and Housing and served as the apex authority for surveying and mapping matters in Nigeria.
