The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Tony Okocha, has formally flagged off the commencement of the APC electronic registration of members in Rivers State.

The development was made public by Jacobs Chimezie Happiness, the Special Assistant, Media & Communication, to Chief Okocha, via a statement he issued on Monday.

Happiness disclosed that the flag-off ceremony, held at the APC Rivers State Secretariat, marked a significant step in strengthening the party’s internal structure and membership database in line with national party reforms.

The statement added that the event was massively attended by members of the State Working Committee, as well as trained coordinators and registration trainees drawn from the 23 Local Government Areas of the state.

He added that the exercise is aimed at deepening grassroots participation, enhancing transparency, and positioning the party for effective mobilisation ahead of future political engagements.

Speaking at the event, Chief Okocha emphasised the importance of technology-driven party administration, noting that the e-registration exercise would ensure accuracy, inclusiveness, and credibility in the APC membership register across Rivers State. He emphasised that everybody should be registered without any discrimination.

The APC launched a nationwide digital membership registration exercise, aiming to update its membership register and have an accurate count of its members. This move is part of the party’s efforts to modernise its processes and leverage technology to enhance internal democracy and transparency.

The party maintained that the e-registration will enable it to access detailed member information at the press of a button, making it easier to plan and make informed decisions.

The registration process requires members to provide their biometric data, which must match their National Identity Number (NIN) details. This is expected to improve the integrity of the party’s membership register and ensure that only verified members are recognised.

The exercise is scheduled to end on January 30, 2026.
