Two injured, vehicles burnt in tanker Explosion on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

The tanker laden with a petroleum product exploded after it fell at the NASFAT axis of the expressway on Wednesday.

Channelstv reports that the incident also led to traffic congestion.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, disclosed this to Channelstv correspondent.

He said the injured were taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital, Shagamu.

It was also gathered that the explosion affected six vehicles, including four trucks, one bus, and one Toyota Camry.

The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps also confirmed the explosion.

The Education Officer of the sector command, Florence Okpe, said that a rescue team from the FRSC and the fire service were on the ground.

Also confirming the incident, TRACE said the explosion occurred on the lane of the expressway outbound Lagos.

Akinbiyi, in a statement, said, “A fallen laden tanker at NASFAT turning outbound Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has exploded, traffic seriously affected, fire services contact, motorists coming from Lagos diverted through Christ Embassy camp. TRACE, FRSC, and the police are on the ground monitoring the situation.”

The incident led to a gridlock on the expressway, reaching as far as Berger, which forced motorists plying the route to follow one way.
