The United States has delivered military supplies to Nigerian security agencies in support of ongoing security operations in the country.
The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) announced the delivery in a post on X on Tuesday.
The statement reads, “U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasizes our shared security partnership. @USinNigeria.”
The development comes amid renewed diplomatic engagement between Washington and Abuja over security challenges, particularly the activities of jihadist groups operating in parts of Nigeria.
US War Secretary Pete Hegseth, a few weeks ago, held talks with Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, and members of his team, focusing on concerns over rising violence and alleged attacks on Christian communities across the country.
Hegseth said the United States, under the leadership of President Donald Trump, is stepping up collaboration with Nigeria to confront extremist groups accused of carrying out the attacks, adding that Washington remains committed to working closely with Nigerian authorities to restore security.
The engagement follows statements by Trump, who accused the Nigerian government of failing to adequately address the killings of Christians and warned of serious consequences if the situation persists.
