Nollywood actress, Damilola Oni, has said that value is better than physical appearance when you place the two side-by-side in the acting industry.
The movie star shared a testimony about her growth in the entertainment industry, crediting her background in linguistics and academic achievement.
“Being a linguist has really helped in shaping my career. The entertainment industry is a place where you can only thrive based on your appearance and the quality of work. When it comes to appearance, you can only do so much; but what you say really matters. Being a linguist helps me know what I want to say, how I want to say it, the diplomacy needed in communication, and the right level of emotion to attach to my words,” Oni told The Punch.
She further called for more focus on the Yoruba culture, stressing that it has a lot a lot of potential that should be tapped.
“I believe in the promotion of Yoruba culture, because it is very rich. You can explore it all your life and still not get to the end. My passion for Yoruba culture has truly driven me and I think the world needs to see that,” she said.
She also noted that she prefers Nollywood films released on YouTube because of the seamless process.
“Whatever career path one chooses, it is already saturated. Nigerian actors turning to YouTube to reach wider audiences is a good thing. I am happy there is a platform where I don’t need to go through rigorous processes to get my content out for the world to see,” she said.
