A multiple road crash involving three vehicles has occurred on Admiralty Way, inward Admiralty Roundabout, in the Lekki area of Lagos.
According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the impact of the crash triggered a fire in one of the affected cars.
In a statement on Monday, the agency noted that the resulting inferno and wreckage caused a massive traffic backlog.
Videos circulating online show a vehicle engulfed in flames, while two other SUVs involved in the crash were left badly damaged.
LASTMA said motorists were diverted to Road 14 to connect Durosimi Etti Road as officers moved to manage the situation.
The agency wrote, ”There’s a report of a multiple road crash on Admiralty Way inward Admiralty roundabout very close to Road 14 involving 3 vehicles with one of the vehicles reportedly in flames.
“Traffic is seriously affected as vehicles are being diverted to Road 14 to connect Durosimi Etti Road.”
Providing an update on the incident, LASTMA noted that firefighters arrived at the scene to battle the blaze, while its officials implemented a traffic diversion to manage the gridlock.
“Presently, firefighters are on ground to quench the fire. Traffic counterflow has been adopted for motorists to connect back at Admiralty roundabout. Officers are still on ground doing the needful,” it added.
