Following their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) trophy, Telecommunications giant MTN Nigeria on Thursday rewarded the Nigerian national women’s football team, Super Falcons with a N150 million cash presentation.
The team was received by the company at an event in Lagos to celebrate their outstanding performance.
Images of the event posted on X by a user, Bolarinwa David, showed player Rasheedat Ajibade receiving the cheque on behalf of her teammates.
The team secured their 10th continental title with a dramatic 3–2 comeback win against hosts Morocco in the final held at the Stade Olympique in Rabat on Saturday, July 26.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu had earlier announced a cash reward of the naira equivalent of $100,000 for each player and $50,000 for each member of the technical crew.
He also promised three-bedroom apartments for all team members in the Renewed Hope Housing Estate located in the Federal Capital Territory.
In addition, each player and member of the coaching crew was conferred with the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
