Wanted Aisha Achimugu now in EFCC custody

Wanted socialite, Aisha Achimugu has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Sources close to the socialite told NewsTellers that she was arrested as early as 5 a.m. on Tuesday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

She was said to have arrived from London when operatives of the EFCC picked her up.

Achimugu was declared wanted by the EFCC in March over allegations of criminal conspiracy and money laundering.

Her arrest comes a day after the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice I.E. Ekwo, ordered her to appear before the EFCC on Tuesday, and also to appear in court on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

Her lawyer, Chief Chikaosolu Ojukwu, confirmed the arrest, stating: “Aisha Achimugu, who arrived voluntarily into the country from London, was arrested by the EFCC around 5 a.m. on Tuesday.”

Ojukwu criticised the arrest, describing it as a breach of the court’s directive. He also disclosed that Achimugu had begun a hunger strike in protest, stating, “She is a prisoner of conscience.”

EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale had yet to respond to calls or messages at the time of filing this report.
