The NWC scheduled the party’s National Convention for March 28-29, 2026, in Abuja, with the aim of electing new leadership and shaping the party’s future.
The party announced this in a communiqué issued after the 105th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Monday in Abuja.
The communiqué was signed by Hon. Abdulrahman Muhammed, Caretaker National Chairman, and Sen. Samuel N. Anyanwu, Caretaker National Secretary. According to the communiqué, the NEC meeting was convened to address the party’s current state and chart a path forward.
During the meeting, the NEC approved a schedule for party congresses across the country, which includes Ward Congresses in February 2026, Local Government Congresses in February 2026, and State Congresses in March 2026.
The National Caretaker Committee was also mandated to prepare for the National Convention, ensuring it is transparent, inclusive, and credible.
The NEC confirmed the Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Caretaker Committee as the party’s only lawful national administrative organ, reaffirming its legitimacy and authority to lead the party.
The tenure of all affected Caretaker Committees at State and Zonal levels has been extended, pending the conduct of the National Convention and other congresses.
The party welcomed a Federal High Court judgment in Ibadan, which validated its current leadership structure and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the National Caretaker Committee.
Mohammed declared that the “cloud of uncertainty” over the party has lifted, and the focus will now shift to internal elections and the National Convention.
In a conciliatory tone, Mohammed called for unity among party members, urging them to put aside past differences and work towards rebuilding trust.
